[Solved] ARK Crashing Issues | 2021 Complete Guide

ARK: Survival Evolved constantly crashes on startup or during gameplay? You’re certainly not alone! Many gamers have reported this exact problem.

But the good news is, you can fix it. Here’re some known fixes for gamers on PC, Xbox One and PS4. Read on to find out what they are…

Select your gaming platform:

Before you try any of these solutions, perform a restart on your device first. A restart will refresh the operating system and fix almost any software-related glitches.

Fix ARK crashing on PC

You may not have to try them all. Just work down the list until you find the one that works for you.

  1. Meet the minimum system requirements
  2. Update your graphics driver
  3. Verify the integrity of ARK files
  4. Install the latest ARK patch
  5. Set the launch option
  6. Reinstall ARK: Survival Evolved

Fix 1: Meet the minimum system requirements

ARK is extremely intensive compared to a lot of games. You might run into issues running the game if your computer can’t handle it. Luckily, the developers make it very easy to tell if your computer is up to the task. They publish a list of minimum requirements (see below). If your computer isn’t at least this good, that’s probably the reason why ARK won’t work.

ARK’s Minimum Requirements:

OS: Windows 7/8.1/10 (64-bit versions)
Processor: Intel Core i5-2400/AMD FX-8320 or better
Memory: 8 GB RAM
Graphics: NVIDIA GTX 670 2GB/AMD Radeon HD 7870 2GB or better
Storage: 60 GB available space

To check your hardware information, follow the steps below:

1) On your keyboard, press the Windows logo key and R at the same time to invoke the Run dialog.

2) Type dxdiag and click OK.

3) Check the information of your operating system, processor, and memory.

4) Click the Display tab, and then check your graphics card’s information.

The minimum system requirements need to be met to run ARK: Survival Evolved correctly; otherwise, you’ll need to play the game on another computer.

Fix 2: Update your graphics driver

Game issues, such as crashing, freezing, lagging, low FPS, etc. are likely to occur if you’re using a wrong or outdated graphics driver. To keep ARK running smoothly, it’s essential that you have the latest graphics driver at all times.

You can update your graphics driver manually by going to the manufacturer’s website for your graphics product, and searching for the most recent correct driver. Be sure to choose only driver that is compatible with your Windows version.

If you don’t have the time, patience, or computer skills to update your graphics driver manually, you can, instead, do it automatically with Driver Easy.

Driver Easy will automatically recognize your system and find the correct driver for it. You don’t need to know exactly what system your computer is running, you don’t need to risk downloading and installing the wrong driver, and you don’t need to worry about making a mistake when installing.

You can update your driver automatically with either the FREE or the Pro version of Driver Easy. But with the Pro version it takes just 2 clicks:

1)Download and install Driver Easy.

2) Run Driver Easy and click the Scan Now button. Driver Easy will then scan your computer and detect any problem drivers.

3) Click the Update button next to the graphics driver to automatically download the correct version of that driver, then you can manually install it (you can do this with the FREE version).

Or click Update All to automatically download and install the correct version of all the drivers that are missing or out of date on your system. (This requires the Pro version which comes with full support and a 30-day money-back guarantee. You’ll be prompted to upgrade when you click Update All.)

The Pro version of Driver Easy comes with full technical support.
If you need assistance, please contact Driver Easy’s support team at [email protected]

4) Relaunch your game to see if this fixes your issue.

If not, then go ahead with the next fix.

Fix 3: Verify the integrity of ARK files

One of the possible reasons why ARK keeps crashing is damaged game files. To see if that’s the core issue, you can verify the game files from Steam to make sure any corrupt files fixed and missing files installed.

Follow the instructions below:

1) Run Steam.

2) Click LIBRARY.

3) Right-click ARK: Survival Evolved and select Properties.

4) Click the LOCAL FILES tab, and then click VERIFY INTEGRITY OF GAME FILES.

Steam will fix faulty game files automatically if it detects any. Wait for the process to be complete, then relaunch ARK to test your issue.

If your issue still exists, try the fix, below.

Fix 4: Install the latest ARK patch

The developers of ARK release regular game patches to fix bugs. It’s possible that a recent patch has stopped your game from running smoothly, and that a new patch is required to fix it.

To check if there is any update, go to the ARK: Survival Evolved website and search for the latest patchIf a patch is available, install it, then run your game again to check whether your problem has been resolved. If it hasn’t, or there was no new game patch available, go ahead with fix 8, below.

Fix 5: Set the launch option

The ARK crashing issue could be caused by incompatible game settings. To see if that’s the problem for you, try launching it with a different launch option. Follow the instructions below:

1) Run Steam.

2) Click LIBRARY.

3) Right-click ARK: Survival Evolved and select Properties.

4) Click SET LAUNCH OPTIONS.

5) Remove any launch options currently shown.

6) Type -USEALLAVAILABLECORES -sm4 -d3d10, then click OK.

7) Relaunch your game to see if this worked for you.

If it didn’t, you’ll need to reopen the Launch Options box and clear the launch option. Then, try the fix, below.

Fix 6: Reinstall ARK: Survival Evolved

Reinstalling a big game can be frustrating, but some players have found it solves the ARK crashing problem. So it’s definitely worth trying.

1) Uninstall ARK from Steam.

2) Exit Steam.

3) On your keyboard, press the Windows logo key and E at the same time.

4) Paste C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common on the address bar.

5) Highlight the ARK folder, and then press the Del key on your keyboard to delete the folder.

6) Relaunch Steam to download and reinstall ARK. Then, try launching the game again.

Hopefully, you are able to run ARK without crashing now! If you have any questions or suggestions, feel free to leave a comment below.

Does your computer meet the minimum requirements for Ark: Survival Evolved?

If you're not sure what your computer has, you can type "dxdiag" in the Windows 10 search box, and run the application that comes up, and it should gather and present that information to you in a comparable fashion.

I would also recommend starting with your graphics drivers, and checking if they are up to date.  You can find the latest drivers on the manufacturers website.

Studio Wildcard combined with Instinct Games, Efecto Studios, and Virtual Basement to develop Ark: Survival Evolved, a 2017 action-adventure survival video game. Players must withstand being isolated on an island populated by wandering dinosaurs and other ancient animals, as well as natural disasters and potentially hostile human players. This game is available on almost all gaming consoles, but its mobile version has become more famous. Though it still faces some major bugs and glitches. One of them is that ARK Mobile won’t load and open on mobile. If you’ve faced the error and want to resolve it, we have it all covered in this blog.

ARK Mobile won't load & open: How to fix it in 2021?

ARK Survival Evolved: Mobile

Ark: Survival Evolved is a third-person or first-person survival game set in an open world with a dynamic day-night cycle. It can be played in either third-person or first-person mode. Players must build a base with a fire and weapons in order to survive; additional activities, such as taming and feeding dinosaurs, necessitate more resources.

The world of Ark is currently populated by 176 creatures. Nearly all of the game’s creatures were real dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures in the beginning, but as the story progressed, mythical creatures like the wyvern, gryphon, and phoenix were added. Completely new creatures, such as the Karkinos and Velonasaur, as well as new robotic creatures, such as the Enforcer and Scout, were added to the game as expansions were released.

ARK Mobile won’t load & open, Why?

Many errors and glitches are present in the game and users are frustrated with them. The ARK Mobile is probably not opening on your mobile because it might be the older version of the game or simply your device is not compatible with the game to run. The minimum requirement for the game on mobile should be 3GB of RAM and Android 7.0 (or a device compatible with the Vulcan graphics API).

ARK Mobile won’t load & open: How to fix it in 2021?

There is no specific patch update or solution for this error because this glitch persists from the user’s end and not from the servers of the game. There are 2 simple steps that could fix the error for you.

Method 1: Delete and Install again

  • Go to the PlayStore in android and App Store in iOS and uninstall the game.
  • Clear your mobiles RAM and then start the download.
  • Install the game with the latest updates and then try launching the game with minimum graphic settings.

Method 2: Check your Internet Connection

Sometimes a weak internet connection also may interfere with the loading and opening of the game. Hence, reboot and reset your Wi-Fi router.

  • Power off the router.
  • Wait for a few minutes and then plug it in again.
  • Connect your device and try launching the game again, the error should have been resolved.

STEAM
Hey all, I have an issue I'm hoping someone can assist me with. Ark will not launch for me (first time ever trying to get it to launch on my computer). Specs are below:

Computer: MSI GS65 Stealth Thin
Processor: i7-8750H
GPU: GTX 1070 - Max Q

I have three different "partitions" and an external SSD. I have tried installing/reinstalling to all 3 and verifying files to all 3. Still no boot.

I have tried the following:

Restarting Steam
Restarting my computer
Re-installing to a different hard drive
Re-installing to an external SSD
Verifying file integrity

What happens is I get the popup that it is performing the first time setup: installing Microsoft directX for windows, which I already have installed. This box pops up every time I try to launch Ark. Once this install "completes" steam says Ark is running for 5-10 seconds, and my mouse curor changes to the circular "working" thing, but then it closes.

How To Fix ARK: Survival Evolved Errors, Loading Screen Issue, Crashes

Update: If you are looking for a guide to fix your errors in the new expansion pack ARK: Scorched Earth, go here:

Tutorial To Fix ARK: Scorched Earth Errors

In ARK: Survival Evolved you need to survive in a world filled with roaming dinosaurs. The game was released a few days ago in the ‘early access game’ version, and because of that, it has a lot of bugs and issues. The most common ARK: Survival Evolved errors that players are encountering at this moment are: Loading Screen Issue (infinite loading screen), Random Crashes, Game Won’t Start, Low FPS Issues and other minor ones. Below you can see all these major issues detailed and solutions on how to fix them.

Before starting to fix your issues, make sure that you meet the minimum system requirements of your game and that your PC can handle the game. You can check these requirements below.

MINIMUM:

    • OS: 64-Bit Windows 7 Service Pack 1, or Windows 8
    • Processor: 2.0 GHz Dual-Core 64-bit CPU
    • Memory: 4 GB RAM
    • Graphics: DirectX11 Compatible GPU and 1 GB Video RAM
    • DirectX: Version 11
    • Hard Drive: 20 GB available HDD space

Let’s go ahead and fix your issues. Below you will find a list with the most common errors that players reported about ARK: Survival Evolved. For each issue, you will have a workaround or a solution to fix it. After you apply this solution, your issue will be fixed, and you will be able to play the game. So go ahead and search for your issue below!

#1 ARK: Survival Evolved Download Stuck at 99%

This issue happens because of the Steam Overlay, the game download is complete but the Steam blocks. Other players reported that they downloaded a new update for the game and that they are stuck with the game patch downloading and they can’t do anything. To fix this issue follow the tip below.

Workaround: You can fix the download stuck issue by clicking Cancel and you should receive a Successful Download message or you can restart the Steam. If you encounter the download stuck when you are trying to get an update, the best solution is to restart the Steam client and download that update again.

#2 ARK: Survival Evolved Crashes with Fatal Error

ark-survival-evolved-crash

Every time you launch the game you might get a Fatal Error and you are unable to start and play the game because of this issue. Apparently, a new version of the game, 247.81, suffers from this issue too. The game crashes after the loading screen is finished and it will send you back to your desktop.

Solution: It’s pretty simple to fix this issue. Go to your local content folder. Here right-click on your game and go to Properties, under local files tab click Browse local files. Then you should go to Engine>Plugins> Runtime> OculusRift> and here delete the oculus rift file in that folder. This should fix your issue.

#3 ARK: Survival Evolved APPCRASH

This is a classic issue that can be fixed by changing the compatibility mode of the game to Windows Service Pack 1. If you don’t know how to do that follow the workaround below and it should fix your issue.

Workaround: Right-Click on the game executable in the Steam/SteamApps/common/ARK: Survival Evolved folder and go to Properties. Here change the compatibility mode to Windows Service Pack 1.

#4 Ark: Survival Evolved Loading Screen Issue

Probably because of the last update players are facing an infinite loading screen when they try to join a server. They are unable to play single player too.

“I know that I am not the first person who is complaining about this, but I have paid money for this game, and I can’t even play it.I am stuck at the loading screen like a lot of people. Please help me, guys!”

“So how long does this game load? Because I’ve been sitting more than 40 minutes, and it’s still loading. If you tell me, that would be great.”

Solution: This error is now fixed with the last game update. If you are still encountering this issue make sure that you updated your game.

#5 Ark: Survival Evolved Random Crashes

ark-survival-evolved-random-crashes

For some players, the game crashes when they try to start it, when they try to connect to a server or when they are playing the game and getting random crashes constantly from 10 minutes to 10 minutes.

“I finally have been able to enter the actual game, for about 5 seconds. Then it crashes, or exits to the main menu, and then I can start all over.”

“Tried joining a server, even local, and through the loading screen the game crashes. I’ve looked into the save log location. However, every .log file is empty.”

Solution: You need to change the compatibility mode to Windows Service Pack 1 and restart the game. If this won’t work for you try our patch at the end of the post for a definite fix. For more details go to the end of the post!

ARK Survival Evolved Crash

  • Fatal error crashing, if you encounter this issue follow the tip below from a Steam user to fix it:

The first fatal crash I experienced I had steam do a local file check and it found 6 files that needed replaced. It replaced them and the game loaded but in the options screen it crashed again. I went directly to the .ini files that are located at

<…>\ShooterGame\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor\GameUserSettings.ini

Here I noticed that the default resolution was 1600×1000… an odd resolution that I have never seen before. So I altered that to my native resolution of 2560×1440. I then noticed that the other 7 of the 8 ini files were blank so I copied them over from the CleanSourceConfigs folder in the Config folder. I then edited my keybindings in the input.ini.

After doing this the game has run without crashing for 4 hours. I think that odd resolution may be the source of some peoples issues. Note: after playing and checking those .ini files they are all blank again except for GameUserSettings.ini and input.ini.

#6 Ark: Survival Evolved Game Won’t Start

This is a common error of the game too, when you begin the game nothing happens, and you can’t enter the game. You click Play in the Steam Library and simply the game won’t start and you can’t do anything to start it from the Steam interface.

“My game will not start whatsoever. I click play and all it says it Preparing to launch: Ark: Survival Evolved… then that little box with close and nothing will happen. Apparently, I need to install Microsoft Visual C+++ 2013 Redis, but I tried, and it won’t do anything either, it just sits at Initializing… and never moves.”

“Lots of people are having this problem, fully downloaded, reinstalled & doesn’t even start please how do I fix this?”

Solution: Follow the guide at the end of the post and apply our patch to fix this issue. Go there for more details!

You can also try to run the game in compatibility mode:

  1. Right click ARK: Survival Evolved shortcut and choose Properties.
  2. Go to Compatibility tab.
  3. Check Run this program in compatibility mode for and choose Windows 7 Service Pack 1 from the list.
  4. Click Apply and OK to save your changes.
  5. Try running the game again.
  • Another fix might be to run the game from the installation folder. Just go to the folder where you installed ARK and Run the game executable in Administrator Mode.

#7 Ark: Survival Evolved Low FPS

You can fix this issue by changing some options in the game, and it will run smoothly at 60FPS, see how to do that:

Solution: Enter the game menu and go to options, now drag the resolution scale to a minimum and you should have constant 50-60 FPS. You can also use our patch for a definite fix for Low FPS issue. See the tutorial below for more details!

Try to reinstall Visual C++ Redistributables:

  1. Go to ..\steamapps\commmon\ark\_CommonRedist\vcredist.
  2. Run all the installers that you have in that folder to reinstall Visual C++ Redistributables.
  3. After you’ve done that, you start the game and check if the issue has been resolved.

Our team of developers managed to release a patch that helps you fix the errors described above. You can see how our patch looks like below, where you can also find a tutorial on how to use it and a download link. Please follow the tutorial step by step before asking any questions regarding your issues. Our patch won’t interfere with your Steam account, it will just change some files and .dll in the game folder in order for the errors to be fixed.

Follow the tutorial below to apply the patch correctly to your game.

How to apply our patch:

  1. Download the archive of the patch from here: download
  2.  Extract the downloaded archive on your PC, and open the patch from the folder.
  3. Your GPU will be selected automatically, make sure that you use your dedicated GPU if you have a laptop!
  4. Select the game executable from the game folder, if you used the default install folder it should be: “C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steamapps\common\ARK: Survival Evolved”
  5.  Select your issue or issues from the box to the right and click the corresponding “Fix” button.
  6. After your errors are successfully fixed you can click the “Launch Game” button and play Ark.

ARK: Survival Evolved is a popular action game that gained its massive popularity during the last years. Of course, the game has its fair share of issues, and in this article, we’ll see how to fix those issues in Windows 10.

ARK: Survival Evolved players have experienced low frame rate, graphical glitches, crashes, freezing loading screens, and many other problems, so let’s see how to fix these problems.

How can I solve ARK crashes, low FPS, and glitches?

  1. Update your drivers
  2. Reinstall Visual C++ Redistributables
  3. Boost your gaming performance
  4. Cancel the download or restart Steam
  5. Run the game in compatibility mode
  6. Make sure that you’re running 64-bit version of Windows 10
  7. Set your View Distance to Epic
  8. Change the Launch Options
  9. Select a PhysX processor
  10. Change TdrDelay using Registry Editor
  11. Use a different screen resolution
  12. Use official servers
  13. Change the Nvidia Control Panel settings
  14. Change the game mode and update your audio drivers
  15. Add -fullscreen to launch options

1. Update your drivers

There are reports saying that ARK: Survival Evolved suffers from crashes. According to this information, the game crashes on startup while loading, or it displays a black screen before it crashes.

This makes the game almost unplayable, and so far, the only solution is to update your drivers and try to run the game again.

Updating drivers manually is very annoying so we strongly recommend you download and install DriverFix to do it automatically.

Thus, you will prevent file loss and even permanent damage to your computer by downloading and installing the wrong driver versions.

You don’t even have to click on anything because when you open the program, it automatically starts scanning your drive for any problems with your drivers.

After a few minutes, DriverFix will provide you with a list of recommended drivers to update.

DriverFix automatically update driversThat’s the only part where you have to intervene and decide which drivers to install separately or if you want to update all of them by clicking on the Select All box from the top of the list.

As you might have imagined, for individual installation, you need to check the corresponding box from the left of drivers’ names and click the install button from their right.

2. Reinstall Visual C++ Redistributables

It has been reported that ARK: Survival Evolved comes with certain graphical glitches such as green water and black sky. This looks quite unnatural in the game, but there’s a way to fix that:

  1. Go to
  2. Run all the installers that you have in that folder to reinstall Visual C++ Redistributables.
  3. Start the game and check if the issue has been resolved.

3. Boost your gaming performance

The ARK Survival crashing issues also might be related to your system performance. You can still give it a boost without changing your hardware configuration.

All you need is to install a dedicated app such asGame Fire. This excellent tool turns off some system features that are not needed during your gaming session.

6. Make sure that you’re running a 64-bit version of Windows 10

If the game won’t start on your computer, this might be due to the 32-bit version of Windows 10.

ARK: Survival Evolved is designed to work with 64-bit operating systems. If you’re using a 32-bit operating system and you really want to play ARK: Survival Evolved, maybe you should consider switching to a 64-bit version of Windows.

Note: If you want to learn what is the difference between a 32-bit app and a 64-bit one, read this simple article.

7. Set your View Distance to Epic

If you’re having frame rate issues while playing ARK: Survival Evolved, maybe you should change View Distance to Epic in game options.

We have to admit that this solution seems a bit unusual, but it seems that developers have optimized Epic settings in the game, and users have reported better performance after changing View Distance to Epic.

This might not work for you, but it’s a still solution worth trying.

8. Change the Launch Options

Run a System Scan to discover potential errors

Run a PC Scan with Restoro Repair Tool to find errors causing security problems and slowdowns. After the scan is complete, the repair process will replace damaged files with fresh Windows files and components.

  1. Open Steam and find ARK: Survival Evolved in your library.
  2. Right-click ARK: Survival Evolved and choose Properties.
  3. In the General tab click the Set the Launch Options button.

10. Change TdrDelay using Registry Editor

  1. Press Windows Key + RB, type regedit, and press Enter to run the Registry Editor.
  2. In the left panel navigate to the following key:
  3. In the right pane, create a new DWORD if you own 32-bit version of Windows or QWORD if you use 64-bit version of Windows. Name the new DWORD or QWORD TdrDelay.
  4. Double click the TdrDelay and change its value to 8 or 10.
    registry_tdr
  5. Close the Registry Editor and try running the game again.

Note: TDR stands for Timeout Detection and Recovery, and this feature is in charge of restarting your graphic card if the system doesn’t receive any response from the graphic card for a set amount of time.

The default time is 2 seconds, and if the system doesn’t get a response from your graphic card in 2 seconds, it will restart the graphic card and crash your game.

If you can’t edit your registry, follow the steps inthis dedicated guideand learn how you can do it like a pro.

11. Use a different screen resolution

Some users have reported crashes, and it seems that these crashes have been caused by the game resolution. If you run the game in 1920×1080 resolution, you might want to change it.

According to users, changing the resolution from 1920×1080 to 1920×1200 has fixed the crashes. If you cannot use 1920×1200 resolution, feel free to use any lower resolution instead.

If you’re interested in how to create custom resolutions on Windows 10, check out this useful article and learn how to do it like easily.

12. Use official servers

If you are experiencing long loading screens, it’s advised that you switch to official servers because they are faster and more stable.

If switching to official servers didn’t work for you maybe the issue is caused by your RAM.

As we already said, ARK: Survival Evolved is a demanding game, and it requires a minimum of 4GB to run, so if you have less than 4GB of RAM you might experience some performance issues.

13. Change the Nvidia Control Panel settings

configure NVIDIA Control Panel resolution settings

  1. Go to Nvidia Control Panel and click on 3D Settings.
  2. Disable some of the options such as Ambient Occlusion, Anti-aliasing etc.
  3. Save the changes and restart the game.

14. Change the game mode and update your audio drivers

Running the game in Low Memory or Extremely Low Memory mode can sometimes cause issues with sound, and in worst-case scenario you won’t get any sound while playing ARK: Survival Evolved.

To fix this you need to run games in normal mode, but if this problem persists in normal game mode, you need to update your audio drivers.

15. Add -fullscreen to launch options

If you’re getting a blank screen every time you start ARK: Survival Evolved maybe you could fix this by changing the game launch options.

Check Solution 7 to see how to change launch options and make sure that you add -fullscreen as the launch option.

As you can see, users are facing quite a lot of issues in ARK: Survival Evolved. We hope this article was of at least some help, and that you were able to solve your problem.
