Our commitment to Privacy

At Hanover Federal Credit Union, we believe that trust is one of the greatest rewards of a good relationship. We value the trust you place in us, not only to deliver you the best products and services we can at the best rates that we can offer, but also to keep your personal finances and other information confidential. Hanover Federal Credit Union recognizes the importance of our responsibility in protecting our members' private information. We maintain a strict policy on member confidentiality. This policy is explained to and expected to be upheld by every Credit Union employee.

This Internet Web Site Privacy Policy explains how we use information, how we keep information private and in what circumstances information may be shared.

Keeping your information secure

Keeping your financial information secure is one of our most important responsibilities. We value your trust and handle your personal information with care. Our employees access information about you when needed to maintain your accounts or otherwise meet your needs. We may also access information about you when considering a request from you for additional services or when exercising our rights under the law or any agreement with you. We safeguard information according to established security standards and procedures, and we continually assess new technology for protecting information. As part of our commitment to protect the confidentiality of your account information, HFCU employees are informed of their responsibility to protect confidential member information and are bound by this privacy policy. Staff may access your account information only when necessary for business reasons.

Working to meet your needs through information

  1. In the course of doing business, we collect and use various types of information, such as information available from public records, market research and credit reports, as well as information you supply to us. This information is used to service your accounts and help you learn more about the financial services you're interested in.
  2. When you apply for a Credit Union account or service, we collect personal information in order to process your application. We may retain this information so that we can provide products and services that you may request.
  3. When you send us e-mail, we will retain the content of the e-mail, your e-mail address and our response in order to assure we have adequately addressed your inquiry and to handle any follow up questions you may have. We may also use it to measure how effectively we address your concerns. We also do this to meet legal and regulatory requirements. If we think that a particular HFCU account or service might apply to your situation, we may occasionally contact you at your e-mail address to inform you of potential benefits and availability.
  4. When you sign up for our online services, our data system records certain online information, including the transactions you conduct online. This data enables us to process and confirm your transactions.

Use and Sharing of Personal Information

  1. The Credit Union will use personal information, as appropriate, in the normal course of business to provide the products or services you request. We will also use this information to provide positive identification of you when you contact us.
  2. We will not disclose information to third parties (excluding credit union affiliates) concerning your account with us, except: (a) when such disclosure is necessary to complete the transaction; (b) to verify the existence and condition of your account for a third party (such as a credit bureau) as is permitted by law; (c) to comply with any court order or applicable laws or regulations; (d) when such disclosure is in compliance with the law, government agencies or court orders; (e) to protect secured assets of Hanover Federal Credit Union; (f) when you give us your written permission; or , (g) to share our experience with you to a consumer reporting agency. It is a federal crime for anyone to make a fraudulent statement or representation to a financial institution in order to obtain nonpublic information about another person.
  3. The Credit Union does not and/or will not sell or provide personal information to third parties for independent use.
  4. Hanover Federal Credit Union only shares information for legitimate business reasons, with the ultimate goal of bringing you greater convenience and more choices. HFCU shares member information with its affiliates and certain vendors with whom it has a contractual relationship to provide specific products and services such as insurance services, credit cards, atm's, check printing and account statements. These are frequently requested services that HFCU would not otherwise be able to provide. These companies act on our behalf and are obligated to keep the information that we provide to them confidential.
  5. Hanover Federal Credit Union prohibits any nonaffiliated third party (other than a consumer reporting agency and a third party processing credit union account information) from receiving from the Credit Union any members' account numbers or similar access numbers for joint marketing purposes.

Hanover Federal Credit Union does not share any member information with third parties marketers offering their products and services. While we may continue to offer products and services from third party marketers, Hanover Federal Credit Union and the companies that work for us will control the member information used to make the offers.

Accuracy of Personal Information

  1. The Credit Union intends to exercise reasonable procedures in order to assure the accuracy of our records and your personal information. Inaccurate information, when brought to our attention, will be corrected as promptly as possible. If you have any questions regarding the accuracy of your personal information, please call a Credit Union representative, or contact us through our web site, www.hanoverfcu.org We will investigate your issue and update your records as needed. For secure transmissions, your e-mails to us should be sent using HFCU Contact Us pages, or directly to HFCU using ground mail. Inquires sent through our Contact Us pages are secure and use Secure Socket Layer (SSL). Since our response back to you is not secure, we will not include confidential account information in the response. You may also contact us by phone, U.S. mail or by visiting your nearest branch office. See our Contact Us Link or our office locator page for additional information.
  2. We request that you keep your personal information as current as possible so that you may get the maximum benefit from the Credit Union. In particular, please make sure that you inform us of any address change or e-mail address change so that we may communicate with you.

Protection of Personal Information

  1. The Credit Union uses multiple levels of security; beginning with your browser and ending with the Credit Union's operating system that acts as a virtual information vault inside the Credit Union. Information we receive via online applications is secure and requires industry standard Secure Socket Layer encrypted browsers.
  2. Protecting your privacy is an ongoing process. We will continue to review the measures we take to safeguard your personal information. These reviews will result in new measures to protect member records. The Credit Union will continue to make changes to its information security practices and other internal control systems to take advantage of new technology.
  3. Whenever we ask for personal information on our web site, we use Secure Socket Layer (SSL Technology) for transferring data. This technology encrypts - or scrambles - your account information so it is virtually impossible for anyone other than Hanover Federal Credit Union to read it.

Protecting your online banking

When you bank online with us, we, along with the outside companies we work with will have access to your information. Information is retained on our system or the system of the appropriate outside company, depending on what is required in order to serve you. We use state-of-the-art Internet technology, supported by the outside companies we work with, to make online banking secure and to protect your personal information. We also require an I.D. and password to access your accounts. If you do not provide this information, we cannot establish an online banking service to you.

You can also help maintain the security of your banking information by not sharing your I.D., or password with anyone, by changing your password regularly, and by remembering to sign off.

Offering you choices

As a member of Hanover Federal Credit Union, you can be confident that the confidentiality of account information is the rule, not the exception. Members may choose to "opt out" of receiving offers of goods or services by direct mail, e-mail or telemarketing. Members who "opt out" will continue to receive offers included in the member statements. Please note members may not "opt out" of information sharing for non-marketing purposes. At least once a year, we will remind all members of their right to choose. If you wish to "opt out" of receiving offers of goods or services by direct mail, e-mail or telemarketing, please put your request in writing and send to:

On the kids' portion of our site, we allow children to send us e-mail if they have questions or comments. They are advised to check with their parents before doing so.
