2017 cadillac ats transmission problems
I'm looking in to leasing a 2017 Cadillac ATS Coupe service loaner with less than 2K miles on it. It's the luxury trim so it's nicely loaded up and I absolutely love it, but I experienced a significant issue while on the overnight test-drive. I was cruising on the expressway for a good hour... 2017 Cadillac ATS Repair Histories. See our lemon odds and nada odds page to see vehicles with no repairs or vehicles with more than three repairs. LubeGard products are good and they work. I add a bottle of Lube Gard Red transmission additive to all my transmissions now (except this one because I don't know where to add it; there's no dipstick). I know a guy that specialized in building high performance transmissions and custom torque convertors. He built a couple for me.

Has a transmission problem in the 8 speed! ... The 2017 Cadillac ATS is a fantastic-driving sports sedan right out of the box without having to add expensive performance packages.
The Cadillac ATS has found itself on Consumer Reports‘ list of popular used luxury cars to avoid purchasing.
The consumer advice website says the Cadillac ATS has “capable handling” that outperforms many of its European rivals and says the vehicle is fun to drive thanks to its refined Alpha platform and powerful turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder engine (production code LTG). That’s just about all CR has nice to say about the ATS, however.
While the platform is well engineered and the 2.0L engine produces plenty of power, CR says the four-cylinder “sounds wheezy and power delivery is uneven.” Additionally, the four-cylinder engine has a poor fuel economy rating of 23 mpg – in part due to the six-speed automatic transmission, which the article says is “a step behind the seven- and eight-speeds of most competitors.”
That’s just the start, though. CR says the touch-only Cadillac CUE interface found in the Cadillac ATS is “very convoluted and frustrating to use,” while the small rear seat and trunk aren’t winning it any points, either. The publication also says the ATS has below-average reliability and poor owner satisfaction based on its records, giving used car shoppers even more reason to avoid the compact luxury car.
CR says the previous-generation BMW 3 Series is a superior used choice to the Cadillac ATS due to its higher owner satisfaction and above-average reliability. The publication also complimented the 3 Series for its strong fuel economy rating of 28 mpg combined when equipped with the available turbocharged 2.0L engine. Additionally, CR the Lincoln MKZ may be a decent “under the radar” alternative to either of these vehicles due to its low price, decent reliability and good owner satisfaction.
The compact Cadillac ATS and mid-size Cadillac CTS were discontinued to make way for their indirect replacements: the Cadillac CT4 and Cadillac CT5. The CT5 began arriving at U.S. Cadillac dealerships late last year and was joined by the CT4 in early 2020.

The 2019 Cadillac ATS-V marches into the new year on its last leg. Cadillacdropped the sedan body style for this year, opting to go the two-door route only. But while the ATS-V will no longer challenge Germany's high-powered sedans, it continues to be a compelling alternative to the Teutonic two-doors. Offering just over 460 horsepower from a twin-turbocharged engine, a 3.8-second run to 60, and styling that still looks stellar years after its debut, there's a lot to like about the ATS-V.
But after a week behind the wheel, we also found a few issues with Cadillac's compact coupe. These are the Pros and Cons of the 2019 Cadillac ATS-V Coupe.
The ATS-V continues to use a twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter V6 with 464 horsepower and 445 pound-feet of torque. That’s more than the BMW M4 (425 hp/406 lb-ft) and the Audi RS5 (444 hp/443 lb-ft) and enough to get the compact Cadillac to 60 in just 3.8 seconds. On the road, this engine is a charmer, with ample low-end torque and a revvy character. It also sounds fantastic, with a sonorous V6 character and far less turbo noise than we’d expect from a twin-turbocharged engine.
The standard six-speed manual is pleasant, too, with a solid-feeling action that requires just enough force during shifts to make the driver feel like they’re manhandling the car. The standard rev-matching system takes a lot of the guesswork out of downshifts, which is good, as the clutch pedal is fickle.
A pricey option at $2,300, the optional Recaro seats look fantastic and are a great place to hang out, whether on a winding road or a track. Despite their aggressive bolstering, clambering in and out of the two-door ATS-V is easy. The seating position is perfect, with great sightlines and an impressive range of adjustments.
The ATS-V looks good. As Cadillac starts to tone down its design language with anonymous vehicles like the new XT6, the ATS-V is a reminder of how attractive the brand’s Arts and Science styling was. Sharp and angular, with a healthily flared wheel arches, a big rear wing, and a vented hood, this Cadillac is a pleasant reprieve from the smooth, organic styling of Germany’s competitors. We especially like the Wave Metallic paint of our tester.
It’s not that the ATS was ever a good sedan. It was too small and cramped for four adults. But it was also the only way to get GM’s excellent Alpha platform – which the ATS shares with the Camaro and CTS – in a compact, four-door package. And we like variety. As it is, the ATS-V Coupe is good, but we could get much the same experience, for a whole lot less money, and with a V8, in the Camaro.
The ATS-V starts at $67,795, which is less than the M4 ($69,150) and RS5 ($74,200), but it’s perilously close to this class’ power hitter, the 469-horsepower Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe ($68,750). As for our tester, its as-tested price is a hefty $78,775. That includes some worthwhile stuff like the Recaro seats, but it also adds a whole bunch of other nonsense. Those attractive gold brake calipers are $595, while the carbon-fiber engine cover is $1,295. Adding insult to injury, the latter item is a dealer-installed accessory. And as is GM tradition, all of the ATS-V’s active safety gear is bundled in one $1,800 package.
The ATS-V comes from a time where Cadillac didn’t really understand how to integrate technology in a cabin. The touch-capacitive controls are unpleasant to use, especially for stuff like the volume control. And while other brands are adopting full digital instrument clusters, the ATS-V continues to employ a puny display on the bottom of the cluster. It’s customizable, which is helpful, but this screen is barely a step above an old rollover-style odometer.

Consumer Reports obtains its reliability data from a questionnaire that is sent to subscribers. In the questionnaire, we ask subscribers to note any problems with their cars that occurred in the past 12 months. They are asked to identify problems that they considered serious (because of cost, failure, safety, or downtime).
A typical model has about 200 to 400 samples for each model year. For some model years, typically those of older or less popular cars, we do not have a large enough sample size to provide results of statistical confidence.
There are several ways in which a savvy car buyer can still research the quality of a car.
