SSD 2 Speed Transmission Conversion for Axial Yeti
Need a little more top end from your Axial Yeti? The folks from SSD RC have announced a new 2 Speed Transmission Conversion for the Axial Yeti.
* Hardened steel gears and shafts
* Hardened steel gear shift mechanism
* CNC machined aluminum shift servo mounts
* Direct fit into Axial Yeti transmission and chassis
* High gear is faster than the stock gear ratio
1st gear ratio: 2.34:1
2nd gear ratio: 1:1
The stock Axial Yeti transmission internal ratio is: 1.08:1
Note, this isn’t an automatic transmission, the conversion requires a shift servo and extra channel on your radio.
The part number is Part #SSD00041 and you can get full details at This Link over on SSD’s website.

Got my 2 speed in, thought i would post up a little install and review thread.
I really like the large clear instructions. for a piece like this i was glad to have them.
First thing i did was remove and clean the trans. dont want any debris falling in and sticking to the lube when you open the case.
Step 1 assemble shift fork
i skiped step 2 leaving the bearings in the case.
Step 3 install bearings in gears
normally i would have liked to see rubber shielded bearings, but inside a sealed trans this is not needed, infact the metal sheilds are more effecient with less resitance. Bearings seemed to be pre oiled but i added 3 drops each just in case.
Step 4 slide on cog ring
the cog ring on the hex shaft was a hair loose but i assume this is done to help it slide/shift easier.
Step 5&6 slide gears and washers on.
i skiped step 7 leaving the bearings in the case
Step 8 slide on shift fork onto groove.
i have to say i was REALLY impressed with all the tolerances.everything nearly snaps together its so perfect. excellent fit and finish. on par if not above VP.
Step 9 install into trans. i test fit here. you have to remove the little plug from the inside of the case to allow the shift fork shaft to slide threw.
after test fit i removed and lubed. i prefer Lucas Red and Tacky #2
Step 10 reinstall trans into yeti and assemble shift linkage using left over short axial rod ends.
Step 11 install servo mounts. i will say these for being so simple they are quite impressive, they have to fit some odd angles and offsets especially the front one, and they fit just perfect.
well all the hardparts are installed. next up electronics. just awaiting a servo saver to come in.
ill cover servo/radio setup and do some testing and a review. stay tuned
