General Thoughts

Think of Gaffgarion as FFT’s version of FF4’s Dark Knight. As such Gaffgarion has a lot of dark centric and gravity based attacks, which if the needs arise they can be quite devastating, but it does make him a niche character at best. Let’s hope you don’t make a gaffe by bringing him along.

Darkside (Dark physical damage (x) with HP sacrifice (30%) to all enemies) and Unholy Sacrifice (Dark physical damage (x) with HP sacrifice (40%) to all enemies) bring the dark elemental AoE attacks, just keep a healer on standyby because of the steep HP cost. Gravity (HP damage (50%) to one enemy) and Graviga (HP damage (75%) to all enemies) bring the non-HP sacrificing damage, only problem is, late game most units are immune to gravity. Duskblade (Physical damage (x) with MP drain (30%) to one enemy) and Weapon Bash (Physical damage (x) and paralyze (50%)) are Gaffgarion’s other two notable moves, both of which are only situationally useful.

Bracer (Type: Accessory, Stats: ATK+30, HP +15%) is strictly speaking better than a Hero’s Ring on a physical DPS unit and pairs better with Doublehand than with Dual Wield, but a few months from now as inevitable power creep takes comes into play Bracer will be a forgotten relic of days past, much as how Hyper Wrist is now.

Night Sword (Base: Physical damage (x) with HP drain (%), Max: Physical damage (x) with HP drain (%)) keeps in line with Gaffgarion’s history but it’s a lack luster ability other than that he can heal himself the turn after he uses Darkside or Unholy Sacrafice; otherwise it’s just a weak physical damage Limit Break.

Gaffgarion like many of the FFT 5-Star character is a niche unit. His abilities may be quite useful early game and he may make a great unit for player just starting out, but as the game progresses his abilities become increasingly wasted as more and more monsters become immune to gravity and get resistances to dark attacks.

Gaffgarion will be a good unit early game, but as it progresses he will spend more and more time not being used. If you don’t have better Trust Master Rewards to aim for Bracer is okay. Okay stats, okay Trust Master and niche abilities make him an easily replaceable unit.

Verdict: Usable unit!

A mercenary who appears in the tales of holy stones known as auracite in the distant world of Ivalice. As tensions ran high due to the outbreak of war, Gaffgarion was hired by the Order of the Northern Sky to protect Princess Ovelia en route to Eagrose.

He had in fact been division commander of the Order of the Eastern Sky during the Fifty Years&#; War, but was expelled for the barbarism he employed to ensure his final victory. Now he serves as a superior to his comrade Ramza, who has renounced the name of his noble house.

WOTV FFBE Gaffgarion Review: Poor man's Sterne (#12)

War of The Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius Reveals Final Fantasy VII Remake &#; Tomb Raider Crossovers

Today Square Enix hosted a anniversary livestream for its popular mobile JRPG War of The Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius.

During the event, we got two relevant reveals: the collaboration with the Final Fantasy VII Remake that was launched in Japan in April is coming west.

Specifically, it&#;ll start next week on August 25 and it&#;ll feature Cloud, Tifa, Aerith, and Barret from the Remake.

On top of that, we also got a less obvious one. A crossover with Tomb Raider featuring Lara Croft herself will launch on September

You can check out trailers for both crossovers below.

If you want to learn more about the game, you can check out our interview with global version producer Hiroki Fujimoto.

Incidentally, previous collaborations involved Final Fantasy Tactics’s Ramza Beoulve, Goffard Gaffgarion, and Cidolfus Orlandeau today, while the second round added more characters, and we also got one with Final Fantasy IV,  one with NieR Automata, and one with Final Fantasy X.

If you’re unfamiliar with War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, which is currently available for iOS and Android, here’s how Square Enix describes the story.

“Leonis, a small kingdom surrounded by powerful nations, has remained unconquered with the help of a curious ring bestowed upon it king by the “Winged One.”

With visions—the hopes and dreams of legendary warriors given life—on their side, Leonis could hold its own against the might of other kingdoms.

But as the ever-repeating cruelty of fate would have it, even the bonds of love and friendship cannot remain unscathed.

The twin princes of Leonis, Mont and Sterne, are no exception.

Their feud signals the beginning of the end of the longstanding War of the Visions.

In this war-torn land of rivaling nations, who will be left smiling in the dazzling light of the Crystal?”
