Elite dangerous engineer guide 2019

Elite dangerous engineer guide 2019 DEFAULT

The Engineers are secretive, eccentric individuals who can modify the weapons and modules of ships to exceed baseline performance standards. As they reside in Workshops on planetary surfaces, they are only accessible to ships equipped with a Planetary Approach Suite. The modifications that Engineers offer vary depending upon their skill sets and personal preferences. Some Engineers will be more beneficial for explorers, while others will be more beneficial for combat specialists.

Engineers and Workshops

Pilots will initially learn about some Engineers through rumors, but as they gain access to Engineers and build reputations, those Engineers will inform them of other Engineers with a wider variety of or more potent modifications. In order to obtain an invitation to an Engineer's workshop, their invite requirements (listed as "How to Get Invite" in table below) must first be met. These requirements vary and some Engineers are easier to obtain an invite from than others. Be aware that attempting to land at a workshop without an invitation is treated as trespassing, and offenders will be immediately attacked by the workshop's defences. Once invited and having traveled to their workshop, an Engineer's services can be unlocked by completing an additional task, ranging from providing a specific item to turning in bounties.

Engineer unlock sequence

Initially, commanders are aware of a subset of Engineers from public knowledge. As commanders improve their reputation with these Engineers, they will unlock referrals to other, more selective Engineers who offer further sets of modifications. For example, to gain access to Lori Jameson, a commander must first develop reputation with Elvira Martuuk to earn a referral to Marco Qwent, then develop reputation with Qwent to earn a referral to Jameson.

Engineer Ranks

Upon unlocking the services of a ship-focused Engineer, a pilot can begin accruing reputation with that Engineer to unlock higher grades of modifications. Reputation is measured in 5 tiers, with tier 5 representing the maximum level. Each modification that a pilot purchases will increase their reputation; low-grade modifications provide a smaller reputation boost than high-grade modifications, and each reputation tier requires more and more reputation to progress. With some Engineers, reputation can also be increased by selling commodities, exploration data, or bounty vouchers at their Workshops. It should be noted that Engineers may not be able to craft all 5 modification grades for a module type.

Engineer Reputation Level Required Profit
Grade 1 Unlocked as soon as Engineer task has been completed
Grade 2 Selling Exploration data/Commodities with a net profit of 500,000 Credits
Grade 3 Selling Exploration data/Commodities with a net profit of 2,000,000 Credits
Grade 4 Selling Exploration data/Commodities with a net profit of 8,000,000 Credits
Grade 5 Selling Exploration data/Commodities with a net profit of 16,000,000 Credits

Engineers that focus on pilot equipment do not use a reputation unlock system, and offer all of their modifications immediately upon fulfilling their meeting requirements.

Crafting

Ship Modifications

Materials are required by the Engineers to upgrade modules on the player's ship. Each blueprint specifies which materials are needed, and how to get them; material sources include (but are not limited to) destroyed ships, mission rewards, ship/wake scans, signal sources, mining, planetary surface resources, and more. Different Engineers require different materials, meaning not all materials gathered can be used by the same Engineer. Up to one blueprint can be pinned per Engineer; pinned modifications can be crafted at any station equipped with a Remote Workshop, but a modification crafted remotely will not contribute to reputation with its Engineer.

Summary:

To Begin

If it’s the first time you play Elite: Dangerous, don’t skip any step and read the Beginner Pilot – Guide.

When you start, your Sidewinder allows you to take control of your ship and understand the missions mechanics.
It will take you several hours before you can collect enough credits to buy another ship: Generally a Hauler if you are focused on exploration and trading, an Eagle if combat is your thing, or an Adder for its versatility.

Once you have one of these well equipped ships, it will surely be time to leave your secured and cozy systems in order to continue earning your credits.
Forward, to the stars!

Then, Commanders… It’s your turn to write your story in Elite: Dangerous!
You could bea…

  • Fighter, Mercenary, Assassin, Bounty Hunter or even a Guardian protecting your systems;
  • Pirate;
  • Explorer short range, long range, surface;
  • Miner;
  • Trader, Smuggler, Courier;
  • Space taxi with tourists and passengers ;
  • Anti-Xeno Fighter;
  • Play as you like, whenever you want, wherever you want, whatever you want, or create your own  emergent gameplay! For example the Fuel Rats (Refueling), Medicorp (Rescue & Research), or even Iridium Wing (Escorts). These are groups that respectively refuel other players, save the lives of the pilots in escape pods and escort the explorers to safe lands, …

To Progress

Now that you understand the basics of the game and own a better ship, it is time to set your next objectives and make some progress in-game!

Summary – Progress:

More Credits

The only true currency in-game is Time: how much credits can you generate in 1 hour of time?
To buy your ships, modules, pay your fines, buy goods to resell them at a better price elsewhere and other expenses: credits are very important for your progress inElite: Dangerous.

I’m going to be direct, even if all activities reward you with credits, only a few playstyles are very rewarding in terms of credits.
Here are the best playstyles to make credits:

  • Mining
    • Go to the Borann A2 system, it has a ring of icy asteroids with three zones of diamonds superimposed. Go to the center of the three zones and mine everything around with just your prepared equipment and Mining Laser.
  • Bounty Hunting
    • Dangerous Resource Extraction Sites with the lowest possible Security and the highest possible Population. You have to play with a large ship (like an Anaconda) in order to get the biggest rewards.
    • Use the filters in-game, or EDDB with the following parameters: Rings? Yes / Populated? Yes.
  • Trading
    • ABA Trade Routes Round Trips. Locations vary, for example if you are affiliated with Edmund Mahon of the Alliance, your profits usually have a 20% bonus. Or go to the Empire to trade Imperial Slaves.
    • Use the filters in-game, or EDDB with the default parameters.
  • Exploration
    • Road to Riches with your own Start & End systems, or the Road to Riches presented in these List 1 and List 2 to make the most credits out of it.

Increase your Jump Range

There’s no other ways, if you want to progress in Elite: Dangerous, you have to increase your Jump Range by Modding your FSD Drives.

The first thing to do is to visit the first Engineer available: Felicity Farseer, system Deciat.
To unlock her workshop, you will need to provide her with 1 Unit of Meta-Alloy.

To do this:

  • Rendez-vous in the Pleiades, around 380LY from the bubble of Sol, system Maia.
  • Here, look for the planetary base “Darnielle’s Progress”. This is the only place where you can buy Meta-Alloy… however, this item is uncommon these days and the market mlight be empty.
You have to find an active Thargoids Barnacles site.
  • Rendez-vous in the system Pleiades Sector GH-L b8-0, and look at your left hand panel, Navigation, then head toward the Barnacles site.
You will get its location, so head down on the surface and gather your chunk of Meta-Alloy on one of the peak coming out of the ground.
You could also visit HIP 14909, a Thargoid Structure, to gather a Meta-Alloy.
  • Bring it back to Felicity, Deciat. Careful in Open, this is a Players Killers’s lair.
  • Congrats, you have unlocked her Workshop and you can start modding your ship, here we want to mod the FSD Drive.
  • You will need to increase your reputation with Felicity to craft better and higher ranks mods.
    • To do this, craft multiple Rank I mods, even if it’s several times the same.
    • Or sell her Exploration Data
  • The mod FSD Drive “Increased Range” is our choice here, and you will need Materials.
  • Materials are items you collect (they are not stored in your cargo and you won’t loose them if you die) in unknown signals, near points of interests, after you destroyed a ship, by scanning FSD low and high wakes, … so get a shopping list and check your tab “Materials” on your right hand panel, to understand where and how to collect Materials, or click the link.
  • It’s your turn now!

Cutter and Corvette

Remember, bigger doesn’t necessarily mean better. But I’m not here to lecture you and tell you to choose an Anaconda.
The flagship of the Imperial fleet (Cutter) and the best of Core Dynamics Federal (Corvette) come at a great farming price.

  • Buy an iCutter
    • With a Python or similar, process a maximum of Data missions (sensible data and items) for the Imperial factions between the systems Mainani and Ngalinn. Be careful, for the most of them you must not be scanned by the police in order to complete the missions objectives // With an Anaconda or similar, process a maximum of Passengers Transport missions in the Imperial systems attacked by Thargoids in order to extract the survivors, though there are no missions at the moment.
    • Don’t forget to do your Rank Up missions in between, doable on Imperial stations (the controlling faction, owning the station, must be affiliated with the Empire).
    • Once you’ve reached the Rank of Duke, you have unlocked the Cutter.
      • Outsider → Serf → Master (Imperial Courier) Squire (ACHENAR) → Knight → Lord → Baron (Clipper, SUMMERLAND) → Viscount → Count → Earl(FACECE) → Marquis → Duke (Cutter) → Prince → King
    • You will then need 208,968,450 Cr to buy a Cutter.
  • Buy a fCorvette
    • With a Python or similar, process a maximum of Data missions (sensible data and items) for the Federal factions between the systems Ceos and Sothis. Be careful, for the most of them you must not be scanned by the police in order to complete the missions objectives // With an Anaconda or similar, process a maximum of Passengers Transport missions in the Federal systems attacked by Thargoids in order to extract the survivors, though there are no missions at the moment.
    • Don’t forget to do your Rank Up missions in between, doable on Federal stations (the controlling faction, owning the station, must be affiliated with the Federation).
    • Once you’ve reached the Rank of Rear Admiral, you have unlocked the Corvette.
      • Recruit→ Cadet → Midshipman (Dropship) Petty Officer (SOL)Chief Petty Officer (Federal Assault, VEGA & BETA HYDRI)Warrant Officer (PLX 695) Ensign (Gunship, ROSS 128) Lieutenant (EXBEUR) → Lieutenant Commander → Post Commander (HORS) → Post Captain → Rear Admiral (Corvette) → Vice Amiral → Amiral
    • You will then need 187,968,450 Cr to buy a Corvette.

Anti-Xeno Ship

To fight against the Thargoids, you will need special technologies from an ancient civilisation: The Guardians.

► Nothing complicated, I’ve prepared everything for you, farming sheets on a dedicated article: Tech Brokers.
► Then, read or AX Combat Guide.

The Tech Brokers sell Guardians technologies for materials that you can collect on Guardians Structures.

To Optimize

Once you have a nice sum of credits as well as several specialized ships, it’s time to optimize everything with the Engineers.
These Engineers are important characters offering diverse enhancements, called Mods, to all your ships modules.

Each of these Engineers offer different Mods and there are different ways to unlock them.
For example, Felicity Farseer is known to all pilots and you only need to bring her 1 unit of Meta-Alloy  in order to gain access to her Workshop.
For other Engineers, you might first need to grind to a certain reputation with another engineer, reach a rank of Merchant in Trading, earn your reputation with a given faction or other requests to meet in order to receive an invitation. You will then have a small quest to do where the Engineer asks you to do complete this or that, reach a rank or bring a special item. This done, you unlock access to the Workshop and can start modding the modules according to the Engineer’s specialization.

You will need a large number of Materials to Mod your Modules.

Some additional support:

  • MCC 686 11 b a Geological site (Selenium), site 1 to 10 advised
  • OUTOTZ LS-K D8-3 B 5 A Biological site (Ytrium) 150 in 20 minutes
  • OUTOTZ LS-K D8-3 B 5 C Biological site (Antimony) 150 in 20 minutes
  • OUTOTZ LS-K D8-3 B 7 B Biological site (Ruthenium) 150 in 20 minutes
  • HIP36601 C 1 A Biological site (Polonium) 150 in 20 minutes
  • HIP36601 C 3 B Biological site (Tellurium) 150 in 20 minutes
  • HIP36601 C 5 A Biological site (Technetium) 150 in 30 minutes
  • The bug killer: HIP 16613 (planet 1 A) => Raw + Encoded
  • Dave’s Hope: HYADES SECTOR DR-V C2-23 (planet A 5) => Manufactured + Encoded
  • Jameson crash site: HIP 12099 (planet 1 B) => Encoded

Remember, you can use the Materials Trader, visible via the Services filter in the galaxy map.
Farm the higher ranks materials and then exchange them for lower ranks materials.

Guide / Tutorial ENGINEER GUIDE: From Fresh Start to Max-Engineered PvP Ship in Less Than Two Weeks

People say that Elite: Dangerous is a huge grind. Yes, there is a lot of truth to that, but there is also a huge learning curve. If you're on the wrong side of the learning curve, it might take you almost a year to accomplish what I just did in less than two weeks. This guide will put you on the right side of the learning curve. My goal was to take my alt account (2.5M in total assets) and get a fully engineered PvP ship (Clipper, FAS) complete with G5 dirty drives as fast as possible. The problem was that I had ZERO engineers unlocked and only 2.5M total assets. This is how I did it...

First, you need 2.5M credits. Jump in your sidey and fly to a High RES. Piggy back on the cops until you've racked up about 2.5M in bounties. This shouldn't take you more than an hour or two max. Done? OK great! Let's get started...

The first step to speed-unlocking engineers is having a workhorse ship. I highly recommend the Asp Explorer. It has great jump range, good internals, and it can fight just fine against NPC's. We will need about 50M credits before we can build that ship though, and we only 2.5M. No problem! Take your credits and build a Hauler with the specs below:

http://www.edshipyard.com/#/L=A0V0,,Cjw0,9p30A4O0AK00AZA0Ani0B1K0BGy0BX_0,,4zW003w0mpT2UI0

This will cost you about 2M and leave you 500K cushion. Set course for Quince. Make sure to use your Advanced Discovery Scanner along the way. Dock at Millerport (just to have a respawn), and then plot a route away from Quince of about 500-1000ly. Follow your route, using your ADS along the way. You can take the time to scan earth-like's or water worlds, but don't do much else or you will waste a lot of time. I didn't even take the time to scan the stars. When you get to the end, make a jump or two sideways, then repeat the process back to Quince. Total trip should take about an hour or so.

OK you're back at Millerport in Quince. Sell your data, then sell your ADS and pick up a planetary lander. The reason we did the short exploring run is three-fold. First, it will raise our rep in Millerport which helps get scan missions, second it raises our Exploration Rank a surprising amount which means the quality of cash reward of the scan missions we get will be much better, and third we need the Exploration rank for our first engineer. Use your extra cash to do any donation missions to help raise your reps with other factions.

At this point, we are now doing a Quince cash grind to 50M credits. If you're not familiar with this, you basically stack base scanning missions at the mission board, then fly 5 minutes to the nearby planet to complete them, then blow your ship up to instantly spawn back at the station to turn them in and then repeat. Each run should take less than 10 minutes. It will be slow at first until you get all factions to Allied. I think this process took me a couple hours.

Got your 50M credits? Awesome! You will also have a ton of firmware and other data which will come in handy later. Jump back in your Hauler and suicide, but instead of rebuying your ship, take the free Sidey back at the starting point. Fly to the nearest High Tech system and pick up your Asp. This is how I outfitted mine:

http://www.edshipyard.com/#/L=A0g0,...sE0B5Y0BNC0Bcg0,,7Ue016y04zM013q005U02UI01IM0

I left the weapons blank so put in whatever you feel comfortable using. Ship should cost about 35M, leaving us 15M to spare. OK, now we're ready to start mass unlocking engineers. Step 1 is to get G5 long-range FSD mod from Farseer. We got her first requirement done (Exploration rank to Scout), so we need to get a meta-alloy for her second requirement. No problem, we will get that and kill multiple birds with one stone along the way.

Set course for the double barnacle at Pleiades Sector OI-T C3-7, Planet A6, (-42.7785 / -21.7142). Once there, grab a meta-alloy and transfer it to your ship. Now, collect about 400-500 of the various elements from the barnacle. This doesn't take long at all. The common ones I would cap at about 70-80 pieces. These elements will help speed unlock the engineers, but we need more than elements, so let's gather those mats real quick.

Set course for Dav's Hope at Hyades Sector DR-V c2-23, Planet A5, (44.818 / -31.389). Once there, gather anything and everything until your materials is around 900-1000. This won't take you very long at all. Once complete, we now have plenty of materials to speed unlock engineers. Let's head to Deciat to unlock Farseer.

Give Farseer the meta-alloy. Now, we don't want to be done with her until we get G5 long-range FSD. Fly over to the planet in Deciat that has Arsenic and pick up about 10 or so. Now, go the station and pick up a wake scanner. Search in the Galaxy map for a system in Famine. Look for one with a higher population. Fly there and find the Distribution Center. Drop in and scan the wakes of the endless Sideys and Haulers coming to get food. Rack up about 20 Datamined Wake Exceptions. Fly back to Farseer. Level her up how you please with your endless mats, but I did Resist Aug on my Shield Boosters, G3 Dirty Drives on my thrusters, and Armored on my power plant. Once to G5, take the best out of about 10 rolls for your FSD. Now we have a great long-range ship (33-38ly range), and we learned about Juri Ishmaak.

I next knocked out Elvira Martuk, because she is easy and we also need her to get to Qwent who let's us get to Palin. Her first requirement we have (300ly from start), and it takes just a few minutes to go to Ngurii to get her 3 Soontil Relics. The only thing she has to offer us of value if G3 Thermal Resist shields, so pick those up which will let us learn about Marco Qwent and Zachariah Nemo. At this point, there a lot of directions you could go. I decided to start down the path of Tod the Blaster --> Selene Jean --> Didi Vaterman. This would give me weapons/armor/booster mods. All very useful.

Tod the Blaster step 1 is 15 bounty vouchers. You may or may not have this from your initial 2.5M credit grind. His step 2 is turning in 100,000 worth of bounties to him which is a snap. Fly to Wolf 397 and then find a nearby system with an RES. Get the total bounties and 100K value you need. Fly to Tod and turn them in. My Asp had weapons that Tod could modify, so I modded them which let me learn about Selene Jean. Unfortunately, Selene Jean is the first MAJOR hurdle in this process. Before I started that track I decided to take a side jaunt and open up Juri Ishmaak which would give me access to the Sarge.

Ishmaak wants 50 Combat Bonds. Depending on your combat skill, this could be very easy or very difficult at this point in an Asp. For me, it was a cinch in my moderately modded Asp. I went to a Low Intensity CZ, and I followed the herd of allies around as they picked off small ships. Took me about 3-4 rounds to get to 50 Combat Bonds. The last 100K worth I took to Ishmaak to open him up. He has nothing of real value to add to our ship. Just use your mats to get him to grade 3 access to open up the Sarge. Sarge step 1 requires Midshipman level rank with the Feds. I went did Courier missions from Col 285 Sector YF-M c8-8 (Lebedev Station) to/from Niu Hsing (Gorbatko Terminal). It was very easy and I had Midshipman in no time (push on to Chief Petty Officer if you want access to the FAS). Step 2 for Sarge is 50 Aberrant Shield Pattern Analysis. This will take time so I put the last step of Sarge on the back burner.

Back to Selene Jean... She wants 500 total tons of ore mined and 10 tons of Painite delivered. Pretty big hurdle but definitely doable. Mining in an Asp can be done, but if we want to do this very quickly we need a Python, and for that we need money- about 110M in cash for ship and rebuys. Time to go back to Quince, but first build an A-rated Sidey in the bubble (A-rated thrusters and distributor), preferably by Farseer you can slap G3 DD's on it. Once complete, fly out to Quince and call in your sidey. Do missions at Quince until you have 110M in cash. This will take a few hours likely.

I knew where I wanted to mine in Bhotho (because of Painite availability), so I then flew my Asp out there and then to a nearby High-Tech station. MAKE SURE you have 10T of cargo space on your Asp so that when you're done with your mining you can get out of your Python and into your Asp with your 10T of painite for Selene Jean. Build a mining Python as per these specs:

http://www.edshipyard.com/#/L=A050,...Om0Bcg0,,7Ue00AA00AA05Vk008c00bg05Sc05xs003w0

This build will allow you to mine 500T or ore in only TWO runs. Fly out to the pristine inner ring of the middle ringed planet in Bhotho. The first run I was very selective, only mining asteroids with painite or platinum/palladium. Vent anything not worth a lot of credits to free up space. By the time I ran out of limpets on first run, I had about 220T mined, 20 painite, and the rest of my hold platinum/palladium/gold. Go back to station and sell everything except 10T of painite and refill your limpets. The second run, just mine any and every asteroid and vent the non-valuable stuff. You will get to 500T total mined in no time. Go back and sell your ore except for your 10T of painite. The ore sold will cover the lost money for selling your python, and will also get our Trading Rank to Merchant for Didi Vaterman.

Jump back in your Asp with your 10T of painite. Sell the Python to get your money back. Fly to Selene Jean, turn in your painite and unlock her by leveling up your bulkheads and HRP's; this will get Didi Vaterman unlocked. Her step 1 should be done already, but step 2 will require 50T of Lavian Brandy. Fastest way to get it is to have a friend collect it as well and have them dump the cargo for you to pick up to go along with what you picked up. This can be done pretty quickly. The G5 shield booster mods will be a huge asset.

At this point we could easily make the push to unlock Palin, but I wanted to knock out a few more critical engineers first. I did the Dweller by buying 5 slaves in an anarchy system and selling 1 to each of 5 different black markets. Easy stuff. Dweller will give you G3-4 mods on lasers but most importantly G5 distributor mods. Unlocking Dweller gives you access to the next critical engineer, Lei Cheung. If you're making a fresh start like I was, you won't have gotten Step 1 done, which is deal with 50 markets. Load your Asp up with 50T of some cheap commodity, then fly around and sell 1T to as many markets as you need to hit 50. Then get your 200T of gold in as many trips as needed to get Cheung fully unlocked. Unlocking him gives you access to the critical G5 shield generator mods.

OK... it's time for the final push. Let's get Palin unlocked. People say this is a miserable grind, but it only took me a couple of days to do it. We know about Qwent already, but we need Step 1 which is an invite from Sirius Corp which requires access to the permit system of Sirius. Let's be smart and knock out a couple of tasks at once. Outfit your Asp for max jump range (45ly or so), and toss on an advanced discovery scanner and detailed surface scanner. Plot a route for 5,500 ly away (obviously this has to be done in 1000ly chunks); we will need 5000ly distance from start for Step 1 of Palin. Fly out past 5,000 away (use your ADS along the way and scan any earth-likes or water worlds), then jump sideways a few jumps and fly back to Procyon, which is controlled by Sirius Corp. This journey will take about 4-5 hours total.

Turn in your exploration data at Sirius Corp which will instantly give you the rep for a Sirius permit. This will also dramatically increase your exploration rank which will come in super handy in Quince later for better scan missions. Go to Sirius and cycle the mission board until you get the Engineer contract mission for Qwent. This can be a bit of a pain, but keep cycling and eventually it will pop up. Now, we need 25 modular terminals for Qwent. You can do this one of two ways. First, you could head back to Quince and get them as rewards for scan missions and pick up some extra cash and firmware along the way. I decided to go a different route. I had decided I wanted my first PvP ship to be a Clipper, so I set course for Aditi.

The Imperial rank you have stockpiled from Quince should get you to about rank 5 in the Empire once you start doing Empire rank up missions (these appear in Aditi as Courier missions). I needed rank 7 for Empire for Clipper, so I just did Courier missions in Aditi, and after about 2-3 hours I had 25 modular terminals and rank 7 for Empire in the bag.

Fly back to Sirius and get Qwent unlocked totally, then rank him up enough to get Palin to appear. Once he appears, you will already have Step 1 for Palin complete. At this point, I outfitted a Clipper, then flew back to Farseer and got a G5 long range FSD mod. I had 50 CIF saved up, so I stopped by an Outbreak system and grabbed 50 Pharmaceutical Isolators. I then headed back to the Double Barnacle and grabbed 50 Cadmium. We still need to get Step 2 for Palin, so I went to the alien crash site at HIP 17862 6 C A (30.33 / -98.58), and I picked up 25 unknown fragments in a few minutes.

MISSION COMPLETE!!

I then went to Palin where I had 50 rolls of G5 dirty drives ready to go. Afterwards, just a matter of going back to the already unlocked critical engineers (Cheung, Vaterman, Tod the Blaster, Selene Jean, Dweller) to finish engineering my ship.

Hope this guide was helpful. Yes, it might bypass some of the fun (or grind) of the game, but if you are a brand new player with nothing to your name, you can absolutely get a max engineered PvP ship (minus Prismatics) in less than 2 weeks by following my example.

Good luck CMDR's, and Fly Dangerous!! o7

You can see what engineers you know about, and how many of them you have unlocked in the right hand panel onboard your ship.

Which blueprints should you pin?

All engineers below will have a "Pin this:" box. This box is meant as a guideline. Explanation for each choise is made by D2EA in this video. If you click the "Pin this:" header you will land at the point in the video where D2EA explains the reason for his choise for the engineer in question.

Route planning

If you need / want to change what you got pinned, then you can use the route planning tool made by CMDR Victic. There is a precompiled list in the dropdown-box containing the engineers :-)

Here you have my list, including what I have pinned at each of them.:

Alioth | Bill Turner. Plasma Accelerator - Efficient/ Focused or Long range. Arque | Professor Palin. Thrusters - Dirty drives. Deciat | Felicity Farseer. FSD - Increased range. Eurybia | Liz Ryder. Seeker Missile - High Capacity. Giryak | Juri Ishmaak. Detailed Surface Scanner - Expanded probe radius. Khun | Elvira Martuuk. Not important if you have 'FSD - Increased range' pinned already. Kuk | Selene Jean. Armor - Heavy Duty. Kuwemaki | Hera Tani. Power Plant - Overcharged. Laksak | Lei Cheung. Shield Generator - Thermal resistant. Leesti | Didi Watermann. Shield Booster - Heavy Duty. Muang | Broo Tarquin. Beam Lasers - Efficient. Sirius | Marco Quent. Power Plant - Low emissions. Wolf 397 | Tod McQuinn. Multi Cannon - Overcharged. Wyrd | The Dweller. Power Distributor - Charge enhanced. Witch Head Sector DL-Y d17 | Chloe Sedesi. Thrusters - Clean drives. Shinrarta Dezhra | Lori Jameson. Life Support - Lightweight. Yoru | Zacariah Nemo. Fragment cannon - any you like. Meene | Ram Tah. Heat sink - Ammo. Achenar | Tiana Fortune. Sensors - Lightweight Beta-3 Tucani | The Sarge. Collector limpets - Lightweight Sol | Col. Bris Dekker. FSD Interdictor - Long range.

#Step 3: Marco Qwent

  • Remember to obtian the Alioth permit mission, after getting allied with them!
  • You have to get the invite mission from Patterson Enterprise in the Sirius system.

#Step 4: Professor Palin

  • You need to pick up 25 Sensor Fragment drops for donation to professor Palin - 7 is NOT enough. Shoot the sensors and pick up the fragments.
  • Pick up 5 canisters of cargo - they count as stolen cargo, that you need for #Step 5: The Dweller. Sell one of them at 5 different black markets!

-- Guide Starts here --

Hi there, gentlemen and gentlewomen of the cosmos! Welcome to my guide for unlocking most useful engineers as quickly and painlessly as possible, from scratch! This guide will not have every engineer, as some are less necessary or have requirements above-and-beyond the flow of this guide to unlock, and therefore don't particularly fit into the flow of this step-by-step guide. Please note that some engineers are just a pain in the ass to unlock, regardless of what you do, but through their grind, you can make your life easier down the road in regards to other grinds. This guide uses those overlaps to give you a clear pathway to having every engineer unlocked with minimal effort. For a chart of all engineers, click here!

This guide can always be improved. If you have input on how to make it better, do not hesitate to post it in a comment below. Reddit post is archived.

Prerequisites

To make significant progress through this guide, you will need the following:

  • A high-LY range ship (DBX, AspX, and/or Anaconda preferred).
  • A solid cargo ship with at least 50T of capacity (AspX, Type 9, and/or Anaconda)
  • 10 Million CR to burn
  • Free time.
  • Significant amounts of engineering materials. These can be readily farmed at Dav’s Hope (Hyades Sector DR-V C2-23, Planet A 5, Coordinates 44.818, -31.389), and the Crashed Anaconda (Orrere, Planet 2 B, Coordinates 43.8122, -173.9722).

Step 1: Felicity Farseer

Time:

Best Module:

Requirements:

  • Scout Rank (requires 270,000 CR profit from Exploration)
  • Donate 1 Meta Alloy

With a Universal Discovery Scanner and at least 1 Cargo Rack, jump down to Maia and honk every system you jump through. In Maia, you can buy 1 Meta Alloy at Darnielle's Progress for 113,355 Cr. If you don't want to spend the money, you can mine Meta Alloys at in the Merope system at Merope 2 A, but you will need a Detailed Surface Scanner and SRV to find and acquire them.

Once you have the Meta Alloy, go to Eurybia, and turn in your Universal Cartographic data to the Eurybia Blue Mafia. This should give you the appropriate funds to reach Scout, while also helping you with Liz Ryder down the road.

Proceed to Deciat, and donate your Meta Alloy to Felicity Farseer at Farseer Inc. Craft mods with Farseer until you receive information on Juri Ishmaak, then head to the Ngurii system.

Note: It is recommended that you improve your Frame Shift Drive with the Long-Range mod as far as possible. This will make the entire guide considerably easier.

Pin this: FSD - Increased range.

Step 2: Elvira Martuuk

Time:

Best Module:

Requirements:

  • Travel 300 LY from your starting Location DONE
  • Provide 3 Soontill Relics

Now that you are in Ngurii, go to Cheranovsky City. There, you can buy 3 Soontill Relics for 19,885 Cr per ton (You will need the cargo space). Travel to Long Sight Base in the Khun system, donate the Soontill Relics, and upgrade your modules until you receive information on Zacariah Nemo and Marco Qwent.

Pin this:Not important... if you have FSD - Increased range pinned already. Pick what you like here.

Step 3: Marco Qwent

Notes may 2019.

Time:

Best Module:

Requirements:

  • Gain Access to Sirius System (Invitation from Sirius Corporation)
  • Provide 25 Units of Modular Terminals

Grab your best exploration ship, and plan a route 5,000 LY away from your starting system. At the very least, honk every system, but some scans with a Detailed Surface Scanner will also help down the line. Once you are at the end of your route, select your starting system to ensure it is more than 5,000 LY away, then head to the Procyon system. Turn in your data at a station owned by Sirius Corporation until you are invited to the Sirius system and acquire the Sirius permit, then go to 78 Ursae Majoris and turn in the remaining data to a station owned by the Alioth Independents. From here, fit at least 30T of Cargo Capacity, buy a cheap commodity, and take a Data Delivery mission, preferably with Modular Terminals as a reward, but it's not necessary.

Once you land at the end of the Data Delivery mission, sell the commodity and buy a new one. Take a new Data Delivery mission for Modular Terminals (or not), rinse, and repeat, until you have 25 Modular Terminals. This will help you down the road with Lei Cheung, as well as unlocking Qwent.

Go back to Sirius with your Modular Terminals, complete a mission to unlock Marco Qwent (provided at any station in Sirius. May require board flipping), donate your Modular Terminals to Marco Qwent, and rank him up until you receive information on Professor Palin and Lori Jameson.

Pin this: Power Plant - Low emissions

Step 4: Professor Palin

Notes june 2019.

Time:

Best Module:

Requirements:

  • Have a maximum distance of 5,000 LY from your starting location.
  • Provide 25 Sensor Fragments (Previously known as Unknown Fragments)

Head back down to the Maia region with an SRV on hand, and go to the system HIP 17403. at HIP 17403, land at planet HIP 17403 A 4 A at the coordinates -34.98, -141.30. There will be a crashed Thargoid ship with Unknown Artefacts and Sensor Fragments scattered about. Pick up Sensor Fragment drops. When you are grabbing the 25 fragments for Palin, you should get 50 if you intend to unlock palins apprentice Chloe Sedesi later. They count as materials, so they don't require any cargo capacity. Hop to Arque and turn in your Sensor Fragments, and you've ended the Elvira Martuuk line!

Pin this: Thrusters - Dirty drives.

Step 4.5: Chloe Sedesi

Time:

Best Module:

Requirements:

  • Have a maximum distance of 5,000 LY from your starting location.

Time:

Best Module:

Requirements:

  • Sell to 5 Black Markets.
  • Pay him 500,000 Cr.

Head on back from Maia and land somewhere outside of Li Yong-Rui Space. Buy a cheap commodity (for Lei Cheung, again), then take a Cargo Delivery mission with 5 cargo, minimum. Immediately abandon the mission, then search for 5 nearby Black Markets. At each Black Market, sell one stolen commodity, sell you non-stolen commodity, buy a new cheap commodity, then head to the next Black Market until you've sold to all 5. Sell the remaining cargo to the last black market, then head to the Wyrd System. Land at Black Hide, donate 500,000 Cr to The Dweller, and rank him up until you get information on Lei Cheung.

Pin this: Power Distributor - Charge enhanced.

Step 6: Lei Cheung

Time:

Best Module:

Requirements:

  • Have traded in over 50 Markets
  • Donate 200 tons of Gold

You should be well on your way to having traded at 50 markets by now, if you've been buying and selling commodities as you go. Finish up your trading at various stations around the Laksak system, then land at a station in the Laksak system. From there, buy as much gold as you can fit (All stations in Laksak sell Gold, with Pinto City and Hedin Hub being the least expensive), and donate it to Lei Cheung at Trader's Rest. Rinse and repeat until you have donated 200 Tons, then rank Lei Cheung up until you get the invite from Ram Tah.

Pin this: Shield Generator - Thermal resistant.

Step 7: Tod "The Blaster" McQuinn

Time:

Best Module:

Requirements:

  • Earn more than 15 Bounty Vouchers
  • Provide 100,000 Cr worth of Bounty Vouchers to Trophy Camp in Wolf 397

This one's pretty straight forward. Kill some wanted NPC's at the Nav Beacon in Wolf 397 until you have 100,000 Cr worth, then turn them into Trophy Camp. Rank up Tod McQuinn until you get information on Selene Jean.

Pin this: Multi Cannon - Overcharged.

Step 8: Selene Jean

Time:

Best Module:

  • Armour
  • Hull Reinforcement Packages

Requirements:

  • Mine and refine at least 500 Tons of ore
  • Provide Selene with 10 Units of Painite

This one's a doozy. Go back to 78 Ursae Majoris, and get allied with the Alioth Independents, and friendly with the Alliance as a whole. From there, grab your best trading ship, outfit it for mining, then find a pristine metallic ring. Mine there until you've acquired 10 Painite, then move to a pristine icy ring, and mine out the rest of the 500 tons while saving all of the Bromellite possible. Do not leave until you have 50 Tons of Bromellite and 10 Tons of Painite!

Go to Kuk, donate your Painite, and rank up Selene Jean until you get information on Didi Vatermann and Bill Turner.

Pin this: Armor - Heavy Duty.

Step 9: Bill Turner

Time:

Best Module:

  • Plasma Accelerators
  • Sensors

Requirements:

  • Gain Friendly Status with the Alliance and Allied Status with the Alioth Independents to get a permit to access Alioth. DONE
  • Donate 50 Tons of Bromellite to Bill Turner

Take your 50 Tons of Bromellite to Bill Turner in the Alioth System. That's it. You already did all of the work during Steps 3 and 8. If you need to go mine some Bromellite then look at this tip on where to find it close by.

Pin this: Plasma Accelerator - Efficient, Focused or Long range.

Step 10: Didi Vatermann

Time:

Best Module:

Requirements:

  • Have a trade rank of Merchant or higher
  • Provide 50 Units of Lavian Brandy

Due to your conquest of the galaxy's markets for Lei Cheung, you should be relatively close to having the Merchant rank already. If not, run a few cargo missions until you get there, then head to the Lave system.

Once in Lave, go to Lave Station and buy the max capacity of 12 Tons (10,365 Cr each). Take them to Vatermann LLC in Leesti system, donate them, then head back and do it again until you've donated 50 units. You have now completed the Tod "The Blaster" McQuinn line!

Pin this: Shield Booster - Heavy Duty.

Step 11: Liz Ryder

Time:

Best Module:

  • Missile Racks
  • Torpedo Pylons

Requirements:

  • Gain Cordial or Friendly Status with the Eurybia Blue Mafia DONE
  • Provide 200 units of Landmines.

You should already be friendly with the Eurybia Blue Mafia from way back in Step One, so all you really need to do is source 200 Tons of Landmines to donate at Demolition Unlimited. Rank Liz Ryder up to grade 3-4, and you should get an invite from Hera Tani.

Pin this: Seeker Missile - High Capacity.

Step 12: Hera Tani

Time:

Best Module:

  • Powerplants
  • Detailed Surface Scanners

Requirements:

  • Become and Outsider or Higher in the Empire.
  • Provide 50 units of Kamitra Cigars

Find a nice Empire system with a station near its star, and grind out a few missions until you get an Imperial Rank Up mission. Complete that mission, head to Kamitra, buy the maximum 14 Tons of Kamitra Cigars (6218 Cr Each), donate them to Hera Tani at Jet's Hole in the Kuwemaki system, then do it again and again until you've donated all 50 Tons. Rank her up until you receive information on Broo Tarquin and Tiana Fortune.

Pin this: Power Plant - Overcharged.

Step 13: Juri Ishmaak

Time:

Best Module:

  • Mine Launchers
  • Detailed Surface Scanners
  • Sensors

Requirements:

  • Earn More than 50 Combat Bonds
  • Provide Juri with 100.000 to 1.000.000 Cr worth of Combat Bonds (it changes).

Juri's pretty straight forward. Find a system in a War or Civil War state on the Galaxy Map, go to a Conflict Zone, and size with a faction in the Functions tab in your System Panel. Fight with them until you've destroyed 50 enemy ships (You may need several trips to and from a station to do so), then save up 1,000,000 Cr worth of bonds. Head to the Giryak system and turn in the bonds to unlock Juri. Rank him up until you get the invite from The Sarge and Colonel Bris Dekker.

Pin this: Detailed Surface Scanner - Expanded probe radius.

Step 14: Broo Tarquin

Time:

Best Module:

  • Beam Lasers
  • Burst Lasers
  • Pulse Lasers

Requirements:

  • Gain combat rank of Competent or higher DONE
  • Donate 50 Units of Fujin Tea.

Dealing with Tod "The Blaster" McQuin and Juri Ishmaak should have you at Competent, or close to it. Finish out the rank at a Resource Extraction Site or Conflict Zone, then head to in the Fujin system. This one takes a while, as Fujin Tea is only sold 5 Tons at a time Rare Goods, and probably not avilable all in one transaction, but has a low cost of 397 Cr/Ton that varies a little. Make your trips to and from Broo Tarquin at Broo's Legacy in the Muang System until you've delivered all 50 Tons.

Pin this: Beam Lasers - Efficient.

That's the end of the guide.

2019 guide elite engineer dangerous

What's up, party people? Welcome to my new and improved guide to unlocking most engineers with minimal effort; now with added engineering information! As with the previous guide, all information you can provide to improve the guide is greatly appreciated, and will be added after proper vetting. Due to Reddit character count restrictions, some things from the previous guide will be omitted, but I'll do my best to get everything. The old guide can be found . This guide will start with a basic outline of what engineers are, along with how to get engineering materials as quickly as possible. Then, we'll dive into the order.

What are Engineers?

Do you feel like your ship isn't fast enough? Maybe the shields are dropping too quickly, or you're trying to increase your jump range. Whether you're a bounty hunter, explorer, or Sun Praiser, engineers can improve your ship.

Engineers are NPC's based at various planetary bases. They all modify specific modules to improve your ship in various ways, while also giving minor drawbacks. An example of this would be Tod "The Blaster" McQuinn, who can give you a significant damage increase to multi-cannons, at the cost of power draw and ammo capacity.

These engineers don't require any Cr to buy their mods, but instead require engineering materials, in the form of raw, data, and manufacture materials. These materials don't require any cargo capacity to hold, but do have a hard cap on how many you can hold, per material. Once you have every material to buy an upgrade, you have to buy that same upgrade a certain number of times (usually 2-4 times), before you rank up the module. You have to do this at the engineer themself to rank up the engineer, but you can pin a specific upgrade's blueprint, which will allow you to upgrade at any station.

Where do I get materials?

Engineering materials are everywhere, but some places are better than others for finding them. Generally, data is found by scanning ships, wakes, and beacons. Manufactured materials are found from destroyed ships, and certain settlements on planets. Raw materials are found in random outcroppings on planets, and are also earned while mining. However, there are three places that are particularly good for farming a specific material type.

Manufactured Materials: Dav's Hope (Hyades Sector DR-V C2-23, Planet A 5, Coordinates 44.818, -31.389 )

Data: Jameson's Crashed Cobra (HIP 12099, Planet 1 B, Coordinates -54.38, -50.358)

Raw Materials: Crashed Anaconda (Orrere, Planet 2 B, Coordinates 43.8122, -173.9722).

Specific raw materials can also be found at various locations around 1500 LY outside of the bubble. does a great job of listing the locations of the G5 raw materials.

I got a bunch of materials, but not what I needed.

There are material traders throughout the bubble that can swap your materials for others of the same category. While you can't search for them in-game, you can search for material traders via . You can determine the material type that the trader works with by looking at the system economy. Industrial systems trade manufactured materials, extraction systems trade raw materials, and high tech systems trade data.

What do I need to get started?

To make reasonable progress in this guide, you'll need the following:

-A ship with a solid jump range, and 50+ cargo space. The AspX, Anaconda, and Krait Phantom are all good options.

-A combat ship that can get 5-10 NPC kills in one trip.

-10 million Cr to burn

-Free time.

-A significant chunk of engineering materials, acquired at the locations listed above.

During this guide, buy a commodity at every station you land at, and sell it at the next station, up until you unlock Lei Cheung. This will potentially save you hours. Additionally, some engineers require commodities to be donated to unlock. Some fleet carriers offer these commodities near the engineers, but I will not include them in the guide, as they're dependent on player decisions.

For those of you who have used my previous engineering guide, you will notice that a lot of the following has been copied and pasted. Most of the engineers haven't changed, and those that have, have had only minor changes. A big reason why this post is being made is that the old guide is archived, and with the arrival of Odyssey coming up, having a guide that I can edit and have input on will be nice. Additionally, I have not included any Colonia engineers in this guide, as a vast majority of players live in the bubble.

The entire engineer unlock tree is

Grab your best exploration ship, and plan a route 5,000 LY away from your starting system. At the very least, honk every system with your discovery scanner, but some scans with a Detailed Surface Scanner will also help down the line. Once you are at the end of your route, select your starting system to ensure it is more than 5,000 LY away, or check the exploration section of your Codex, then head to the Procyon system.

For the sake of Player Minor Factions, always try to take their missions if possible.

Go back to Sirius with your Modular Terminals, complete a mission to unlock Marco Qwent (provided at any station in Sirius), donate your Modular Terminals to Marco Qwent, and rank him up until you receive information on Professor Palin and Lori Jameson.

Step Ten: Didi Vatermann

Time: Moderate

Best Module: Shield Boosters

Requirements:

-Have a trade rank of Merchant or higher

-Provide 50 Units of Lavian Brandy

Due to your conquest of the galaxy's markets for Lei Cheung, you should be relatively close to having the Merchant rank already. If not, run a few cargo missions until you get there, then head to the Lave system.

Once in Lave, go to Lave Station and buy the max capacity of 12 Tons (10,365 Cr each). Take them to Vatermann LLC, donate them, then head back and do it again until you've donated 50 units. You have now completed the Tod "The Blaster" McQuinn line!

Step Eleven: Liz Ryder

Time: Moderate

Best Module: Missile Racks and Torpedo Pylons

Requirements:

-Gain Cordial or Friendly Status with the Eurybia Blue Mafia DONE

-Provide 200 units of Landmines.

You should already be friendly with the Eurybia Blue Mafia from way back in Step One, so all you really need to do is complete the engineer invitation mission and source 200 Tons of Landmines to donate at Demolition Unlimited. -Become and Outsider or Higher in the Empire.

-Provide 50 units of Kamitra Cigars

Find a nice Empire system with a station near its star, and grind out a few missions until you get an Imperial Rank Up mission. Complete that mission, head to Kamitra, buy the maximum 14 Tons of Kamitra Cigars (6218 Cr Each), donate them to Hera Tani in The Jet's Hole in the Kuwemaki system, then do it again and again until you've donated all 50 Tons. Rank her up until you receive information on Broo Tarquin and Tiana Fortune.

Step Thirteen: Juri Ishmaak

Time: Moderate

Best Module: Mine Launchers, Detailed Surface Scanners, and Sensors

Requirements:

-Earn More than 50 Combat Bonds

-Provide Juri with 100,000 – 1,000,000 Cr worth of Combat Bonds (it changes).

Juri's pretty straight forward. Find a system in a War or Civil War state on the Galaxy Map, go to a Conflict Zone, and side with a faction in the communications panel.

Step Fourteen: Broo Tarquin

Time: Short

Best Module: Beam, Burst, and Pulse Lasers

Requirements:

-Gain combat rank of Competent or higher DONE

-Donate 50 Units of Fujin Tea.

Dealing with Tod "The Blaster" McQuin and Juri Ishmaak should have you at Competent, or close to it. Finish out the rank at a Resource Extraction Site or Conflict Zone, then head to Fujin Spaceport in the Fujin system. This one takes a while, as Fujin Tea is only sold 5 Tons at a time, but has a low cost of 397 Cr. Make your trips to and from Broo Tarquin at Broo's Legacy in the Muang System until you've delivered all 50 Tons.

This is the end of the guide. Certain useful engineers are omitted from the guide, because they don't chain well with the rest of the guide. The unlocking guides are available in my previous guide, but at this point, you are likely seasoned enough to be able to figure them out for yourself.

Thanks for reading, and again, let me know if there's anything I should add or change.
