Online Audition and Interview

Online auditions and interviews for the Bachelor of Music program include the exact same components as an in-person audition, with admission and scholarship considerations weighted equally. These events are completed from the comfort of your own space on Zoom through a live video chat with Berklee faculty and staff. In the video playlist below, you can watch each part of the process, including how to set up your space and what to expect in the online audition and interview.

Accommodations for Applicants Who Are Blind or Visually Impaired
To receive sheet music in Braille for the music-reading portion of the audition, please contact the auditions team at [email protected]

Requirements for an Online Audition and Interview

There are a few technology and space requirements to complete your audition and interview online, which you can learn more about below. To be scheduled for an online audition and interview, you must select "Online" as your first location preference in your application form.

Internet Speed Recommendations

After you submit your application form, we suggest that you complete an internet speed test to check the strength of your connection.

When checking your internet speed, first manually type in the location and connect to a server in or near Boston, Massachusetts. We recommend using a direct ethernet connection as opposed to a wireless connection. Below are our recommended minimum download and upload speeds to help ensure a smooth online audition and interview:

  • Download: 0.5 mbps
  • Upload: 0.5 mbps

Test your internet connection.

At-Home Audition Room Requirements

You must have access to:

  • a private room without interruption (no one else should be present in the room other than an accompanist, if necessary);
  • a computer with an internet connection and audio/video capability (a computer/laptop with built-in audio/video is preferred);
  • headphones with a built-in microphone; and
  • all instruments and accompaniment needed to participate (the accompanist should exit the room after the prepared piece).

Course Content

To ensure the best performance, please download and install the latest version of Google Chrome  . If already in Chrome, you can go to chrome://help within your address bar to check your version and update it if needed.

Trouble Accessing Your Course

If you are having trouble accessing your course through your My Home page, you may need to reset your web browser. To reset your browser please follow the steps outlined here.

Live Classes

Live classes are facilitated through Zoom. Please ensure that you have Zoom installed before accessing your scheduled Live Classes.

  • On a computer, you can get the latest version of Zoom at https://zoom.us/download.
  • From within BOCCE (your course environment) click on the ‘Live’ tab, which will show any scheduled live classes. When you click the appropriate class to join, you’ll get a browser pop-up asking if you’d like to open in Zoom.
  • It is also possible to join Live Classes using a mobile device. You can install the Zoom app from the Apple App Store on iOS or the Google Play Store on Android devices. You'll be redirected to the Zoom app from within the course environment. (Please note that some users have reported that the Safari browser app on iOS devices will not always properly redirect to the Zoom app. If that is the case, we recommend getting the Chrome browser app.)
  • If you'd like, you can go to https://zoom.us/test prior to joining a Live Class to test your audio and video, and to make sure the software is behaving as expected.
  • If you are not redirected to Zoom as expected, please ensure that you’re using the latest version of both Chrome and Zoom.
  • Also, please note that your browser may have a pop-up blocker enabled that could prevent you from joining a Zoom class. In Chrome, if nothing happens after clicking the "Join" button in your course, please check if there is a pop-up block icon to the right of the URL bar at the top of the window, right next to the bookmark star icon. This should give you the option to allow the pop-ups/redirects to run.
  • If you are connecting from a place of business, school, library, etc., please check with their IT department to inquire about possible website restrictions that could be preventing you from using Zoom for meetings.
  • Regarding Live Class scheduling, Instructors are responsible for scheduling those within each section. Depending on their availability, they may send out polls giving the class a few options, and some may schedule different times each week to accommodate more students.
  • All live classes are also recorded and archived for you to watch if you can't make.
  • We recommend checking out the Live Class video tutorial under the Orientation Movies page in the Getting Started section of your course.

Where Do I Get My Required Course Materials?

Required course materials are listed on any course’s Requirements page and within the course itself in the Getting Started section. If a course requires software made by a third party such as a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) or notation program, links to where these can be purchased can be found within your My Home page at the Required Course Materials link. Discounts on non-required software and gear can be found on the Student Deals page.
